Zell am See is different to other Austrian ski resorts - not a rustic village but a lakeside town - with a lake called the same name.
Zell am See has teamed up with the nearby and smaller Kaprun to create the large Zell am See-Kaprun skiing region.
There is a lot of variety and challenging terrain for a small area although high intermediates or experts would find less to amuse themselves for a week. Zell am See is near the Kaprun glacier - which can be very busy if the snow isn't perfect in the resort.
Zell am See is great as a base if you want to explore - with a car you can easily get to other resorts - including Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Bad Gastein-Bad Hofgastein, Wagrain, Schladming and Obertauern.
