Tignes shares the L'Espace Killy with Val d'Isere and with over 300km (190 miles) of pistes 150 shops, 115 bars, 7 ski schools, 1500 staff & extensive off-piste it has become one of Europe's premier resorts. Due to its altitude Tignes has a very reliable snow record which, after recent seasons of reduced snowfall, has encouraged people to choose higher mountain resorts.

Lavachet in Val Claret is one of the best beginners'slopes in the resort and is surrounded by some great bars and restaurants if you're feeling defeated. When you're ready to venture further up the hill, try the blues Lac and Anemone on L'Aiguille PerceeortaketheToviere chair and cruise the greens on the border between Tignes and Val d'lsere.
One of the biggest drawbacks to the resort is the crowds. In peak season try to avoid the Double M underneath Les Lanches chairlift. Although it's a great run, the crowds make it very hard to get any sort of speed up. If you head up the other side of the valley, the blue and red runs from Chardonnet and Palafour are quiet enough for you to let rip.
There are some pretty horrific blacks and it's those skiers who are after some challenging terrain who will truly make the most ofTignes. Notorious La Face, the Olympic piste from the summit of La Bellevarde to Val d'lsere, is a must-do for adrenalin junkies, but try to go first thing in the morning as later in the day it's crazy busy. In the afternoon, hang out in the Naturide zone (marked Le Spot on the piste map).
The Naturide area has never seen a piste-basher so offers a whole slope of off-piste - so to speak. When there's new snow, most advanced skiers will head here, although you'll be able to find fresh tracks for a few days after. Be warned, you'll probably have to fight the locals for the best powder.
According to 'The good Ski & Snowboarding Guide 2005' Tignes/Val d'Isere is one of only two ski areas in France listed as 'Snow-sure resorts'. Tignes boasts a fast & efficient lift system 97 lifts including 2 high speed underground trains (funicular railways) one of which transports you from Tignes Val Claret to the 'Panoramic Restaurant' on the Grand Motte Glacier.
All standards are catered for with '5 free lifts for beginners'L'Espace Killy is known for its incredible off-piste with good lift access. Also there is a half pipe, boardercross course, some great freeriding & the 1992 Olympics downhill course should you be feeling up for it.
