Eating and drinking: meals and catering options:
Food is a very important part of your holiday whether you choose to cook for yourselves, sit down and let someone else do it or choose a combination of both. So at most times of the season you can choose from three different options: fully catered, flexi catered or self catered.
Catered:
We shop, you ski, we cook, you relax and enjoy and then we clear up afterwards: cooked breakfast, tea and cakes, and a three or four course evening meal with wine on six days, one day midweek we take off but bring you fresh croissants in the morning. Our food is fresh and varied and we want you to enjoy it and look forward to meals, so we take on board your likes and dislikes, get excited at cooking vegetarian or something different, and work around your needs with younger children. We’re very fortunate to be surrounded by a choice of small local producers, weekly markets and impressive counters of goods in the supermarkets and we try and make the most of all that is on offer.
Here are some of our suppliers:
We get our bread from Boulangerie Tiffanie and our cheese from the small dairy just down the road at La Riviere Enverse. Most of our wine comes from the Feuille de Vigne Savoyarde in Samoens.
If you want to talk through the food in more detail, please ask.
Drinks:
Have a glass of wine or a beer before dinner in the evening, the wine continues with your food and you can choose red, white or rosé. We enjoy wine too and are always looking for good supplies. For winter 08/09 we’ll also have a small but tempting range of more expensive wine and champagne that you can choose to buy.
Flexi Catered:
Not everyone wants to cook every day of the holiday or to be catered for all week so if you book the whole chalet we offer the option of flexi catered. This means that:
The prices for flexi catered are 70% of fully catered and include discounts when over 10 people book.
Self catered in Chalet Brio or La Terrasse:
La Terrasse is available self catered all winter, Chalet Brio is available outside the New Year, half term and Easter holidays. You look after yourselves, but the rental price includes fresh bread and croissants on six mornings and a good supply of store cupboard basics for you to use such as olive oil, sugar, herbs etc. We also leave enough for breakfast the first morning; milk, juice, butter etc. If you decide you’d like a break from cooking then we do very reasonable ready prepared meals or there are plenty of good restaurants in Samoens and Morillon. Finally in Chalet Brio we do a midweek clean.
The prices for Chalet Brio, up to 16 people self catered, are generally based on the fully catered adult price for that period times six, ie £500 x 6 = £3000, but if you are interested in self catering please speak to us about your particular situation.
Ski Chalet Chalet Brio is in Samoens, France
For winter skiing we are a 2 minute drive from any one of three lifts. These will take you up into the vast Grand Massif ski are.
For the summer tha activities are endless:
Many people come to just to enjoy the environment in the mountains, to stroll around the historical centre of Samoëns or along the river, or to explore the surrounding villages and hamlets. But Samoëns also puts on a full calendar of events and summer festivals from music to Harley Davidson’s. Then there is the newly refurbished sports centre, the tennis courts, a large outdoor swimming pool, and a pleasure lake. A little train winds its way around the town and out along the valley and in the main square an old fashioned roundabout is a firm favourite. Down in Morillon is another excellent park, where you can find a small sandy beach on the shore of a freshwater lake, and try out the challenging tree top trail.
For walkers this is a great area, with stunning scenery and an extensive range and choice of walks, whether you want a leisurely circuit or a more strenous rock climb. The mountains are dotted with many welcoming refuges where you can stay overnight and plan your walks further afield.
Take a bike ride on the flat or hire mountain bikes, stick them on the chairlifts, then hurtle back down to the bottom over the hillsides and forest tracks. For more thrills try jumping off the summit at Samoëns 1600 and parapenting down the valley. Try horse riding or golf on the courses at Les Gets, Evian les Bains and Flaine. If the weather is wet, which it sometimes is, the cinema shows a good mix of current English and French titles or you can go with the weather and get even wetter white water rafting or canyoning.
It may be a small place, but Samoëns also boasts a botanical garden, which stretches up the hillside from the main square and from its highest point looks down over the rooftops. Here you can see many varieties of alpine and mountain plants, then wander around the valley and slopes which are teeming with plants and wildlife in their natural habitats. Each small commune organises regular guided walks around the area with the emphasis on local history, architecture, plant and wildlife.
Eating out: - local hams, sausages and cheeses form the basis of delicious salads, fondues and hot dishes, enjoy traditional French and local food in the village or up the mountain; don't forget the pleasure of a good picnic!

Samoens, known for its stone cutting industry, is a resort which really stands out. In the Haut Giffre valley at the heart of the Alps, Samoëns has plenty on offer to ensure a holiday that is out of the ordinary. An ideal choice for families, winter holidays here are quite exceptional.
