Ski resorts in Switzerland

Swiss ski resorts include some of the highest and toughest in Europe. Switzerland has a great variety of ski resorts, including some of the most popular ski resorts in Europe. Their high altitude means that powder skiing is often found. Swiss ski resorts unlike the purpose-built resorts of France,  have grown from traditional mountain villages - making them feel more traditional and generally much prettier. Choose between the world famous Swiss ski resorts of Verbier and Zermatt offering extensive varied ski areas to the quieter traffic-free resorts of Wengen and Saas Fee.

The UK royal seal of approval also seems to go to Swiss ski resorts too.. Klosters is a firm favourite of Prince Charles and his family.

Travelling to Switzerland

Zurich and Geneva are the two main airports in Switzerland. Zürich is the closest airport to St Moritz with regular flights from the UK. Budget airlines such as EasyJet fly regularly to Geneva., where you can get transfers by coach, taxi or train to Verbier.

Travelling by Train to Switzerland is a good option. First get the Eurostar to Paris, from London Waterloo or Ashford, Kent. From Paris, catch a high-speed TGV train to Geneva (03h30). Or you can take an overnight train to Chur in Switzerland, and connect with a local train to St Moritz. The entire journey takes only 12 hours. The train from Zurich takes approximately 4 hours with 1 change at Chur. The scenic Glacier Express train departs from Zermatt and takes around 7 ½ hours to wind through the Swiss Alps with just one train change. This is highly recommended, in fact the Glacier Express was in the top ten train trips of the world - the views are seriously stunning.

From the UK, travel to France by P&O Stena Ferry, Hoverspeed or Channel Tunnel. Then a drive to Verbier is about 850kms from Calais with a driving time of 8 and a half hours and toll road costs of about €41.
