Nendaz is a great base for summer Alpine walking. The bisses (water channels) provide well-marked, high-level walking paths which follow near-level contours and the ski lifts do the work to get you there! Have recently returned from 2 weeks of glorious weather - sunshine and blue skies - staying with friends in a superbly-appointed, self-catering chalet run by the company Secret Alps. The views from the balcony overlooking the Rhone valley and the mountains beyond were just fantastic. The ancient town of Sion in the Rhone valley, just a short drive from Nendaz, is also well worth a visit.
