Morzine Practicalities

Practical information and Apres Ski guide to Morzine

As it follows a valley, Morzine's perpetual growth means that if you're staying at the far end of town you'll probably have to catch a bus to get to the lifts. Some might also find the centre, which in some respects resembles a boozy summer resort rather than a pretty Alpine town, something of a turn-off. But really, this comes with the territory when you're dealing with a resort of this size and the pros here definitely outweigh the cons.

Bars and clubs

Morzine has a bewildering number of bars. For raucous band nights and local flavour, Le Garage has a cult following, while in town Dixie Bar is always packed, as is the Cavern, which wouldn't be out of place in Benidorm or Blackpool.

Best apres-ski

Either Bar Robinsonto try legendary local lager Mutzig (be warned, it is very strong so stick to the halves) or the Cavern for some mellow acoustic guitar sessions.

Eating

Morzine is a large town with many options. Some firm favourites include the Rhodos Hotel, Morzine's take on the Alpine gastro pub/roast dinner/full-English trend, and La Flamme for unpretentious and fairly priced local nosh. L'Etale is universally regarded as the best mid-price place in town and is usually packed as a result. Le Clin d'Oeil is also recommended. Further up the scale, La Chamade , run by husband and wife team Thierry and Valerie Thorens, specializes in sophisticated French cuisine. Booking is essential.

Shopping

Independent shops rub shoulders with larger, established brands in Morzine. Indeed, the local supermarkets have their own website! Shopi and Champion are in the centre, while Promocash is a little farther out of town.
