Skiing in Meribel

Meribel Ski Resort

Meribel now has 685 snow cannons which covers a whopping 42 % of the total skiing area helping snow condensations when needed.

For anyone yet to visit the 3 Valleys you can ski all day and never hit the same run twice, with a 3 Valleys pass you can easily ski in and out of the connecting resorts of Courchevel and Val Thornes making this one of the best varied ski area for all levels.

In terms of nightlife and restaurants Meribel has loads to offer, with a variety to covers all tastes once the days skiing is over. Sitting just above Meribel village is the hamlet of Meribel Mottaret with instant access to the heart of the runs in all directions.

Beginners

Beginners will want to head to the Altiport area. Here you'll find wide greens and blues serviced by a rapid chair and some easy drag lifts. You can access this area from town by taking the Rhodos lift. Once you've conquered this, take the'six-man'chair (down from the Rond Point) or the Burgin Saulire to the mid-station.

Intermediate

Solid intermediates might have just found their favourite resort. The Burgin Saulire lift takes you to the top of Meribel proper and from there it is an exhilarating, sunny descent back down to Meribel.TheTougnete lifts also access some fantastic, easy terrain leading to Mottaret and the Platieres runs. It is possible to ski from here back to Meribel for a long, sweeping descent.

Expert

Experts should head for the Olympic Express chair; it was the run used when Meribel hosted the Women's Downhill in 1992 and is usually well groomed and quick in the morning. Other notable blacks include Combe Tougnete and the Bartavelle. To really make the most of this terrain, though, a Trois Vallees pass is a must, especially for the heights of Val Thorens and the steeps of Courchevel.

Meribel's best après-ski bars and clubs

Méribel has some of the best après-ski in Europe but because the venues are dispersed across the valley people tend to stick to one or two places.

The Rond Point is generally the focus of the action with a busy sun terrace and live music. This is in Meribel centre by the roundabout (le Rond Point), the bar is also known as the Ronny.

In the town centre, The Pub, Scott’s Bar (both in Hotel Doron) and La Taverne (Hotel le Roc) are lively from late afternoon through to the early hours, as are Jack’s Bar, Evolution and Cactus Cafe in La Chaudanne and Rastro's in Mottaret.

Le Poste de Secours makes a refreshing change from the British-dominated bars and pubs, providing a more authentic French atmosphere (at a price) in Méribel Centre.

Once the après-ski scene has run its course, party animals should head for Dick’s Tea Bar (French-run Euro-pop), or the Loft in La Chaudanne a British-run bar and nightclub that’s like any bar in Clapham.
