Skiing in Megeve

Megeve might not be so popular as it was in its heyday in the 1960s, overshadowed as it is by nearby Chamonix and La Clusaz, but it is still a classic example of a mid-Alps French resort. The centre oozes French charm, with deserted streets wrapped around the quaintest town square you'll ever see, and a predominance of upmarket clothes shops and restaurants. Although it might be a little quiet at times, there's a wealth of events and activities to keep visitors happy.

Megeve has a excellent modern ski lift system providing you a quick journey time to the top of each run. The resort is the original purpose-built French ski resort providing the highest level of skiing and apres ski that France has to offer.Once the days skiing has come to and end you really are spoilt for choice, Megeve  is an old town that oozes charisma and traditional Alpine charm, famous for it's elegance, it's chic boutiques, bars and fine restaurants. With over 80 restaurants including the 3-star Michelin restaurants La Ferme de mon pere Megeve really does stand out as an outstanding ski resort.

Beginners

There's plenty of room to practise your turns and build confidence on the long greens of Mont d'Arbois. When you're ready head over to Rochebrune and try some of the wide steady blues.

Intermediate

Developing skiers will love the long blue and red runs throughout Megeve. Lanchettes is a wide red that is usually very quiet. If you're feeling really adventurous, Super Megeve is marked as a black but is probably more a red - not that it matters when telling everyone how fast you went down this'amazing black'. Mont d'Arbois is perfect for immediate skiers, Princesse being the best.

Expert

The first run you should try is the Cote 2000 to whet your appetite. There's not an enormous range of choice for advanced skiers but the blacks and more difficult reds that you can access are very good. If you're willing to venture out of the village, try La Giettaz for runs Rhodos and Aigle.

Powder

If you're visiting outside peak season, consider yourself lucky. Powder can often still be found up to a week after fresh snow, so find the best in between the Radaz and Lanchettes chairlifts, known locally as The Magic Garden'.
