Mayrhofen is the largest of the resorts covered by the 'Zillertal Superski' pass, with 157km of runs.
The whole area has a total of 455km although please note that not all the areas are lift-linked.
Mayrhofen's skiing is on two mountains. A cable car opened in 06/07 has made access much easier to the Ahorn area.
Mayrhofen is very popular with the British, either young crowds looking for good nightlife, or families looking to exploit the excellent childcare facilities. Mayrhofen appeals to each group with little problems arising rm the mix.
The skiing is excellent for beginners and intermediates, with one of the best ski schools in Austria.
The resort also gets pretty good snow due to its altitude as well as 18km of pistes on the Hintertux glacier. Which guarantees year-round skiing.
Mayrhofen is not quite as good as other resorts in Austria for advanced skiers. Although there is some reasonable off-piste to be found. Beginner boarders will not find Mayrhofen the easiest place to learn, especially with its old lift system, but there is a park and a half-pipe for more advanced boarders.
The resort itself is a town in its own right with lots of accommodation options, restaurants, off-snow pursuits, bars and nightclubs.
The apres ski options of Mayrhofen are perhaps the most likely reason that you would choose Mayrhofen.
