Find Chalets Resort Guide to Ischgl

Uncompromising, fun winter sports and a sophisticated nightlife: The popular ski resort of Ischgl will keep you busy 24 hours a day.

Skiing in Ischgl

Ischgl is suited to intermediate and advanced skiers more than beginners. The resort is high – all the runs except those into the resort are above 2000m – and most slopes are north-facing, which means the snow quality is typically good.

Ischgl's lift system is excellent, with intermediate skiers or boarders thrive on the many long cruisers. Although serious on-piste challenges are limited, there's plenty of excellent freeriding terrain, which is skied out considerably less quickly than other resorts of its caliber. Ischgl also features one of the best terrain parks in the Alps, the snowARTpark.

A quieter alternative to Ischgl is Galtür, a peaceful little village located 10km away and linked by free ski bus. Galtür has its own ski area, which, although fairly limited, is popular with families.

Ski Run's

Alp Trida

An ideal area for intermediates on the Swiss side of Ischgl, with fast lifts and several blue pistes that are generally quieter than the main Idalp ski area.

Höllenkar

There are almost limitless descents into the Höllenkar valley accessed from the Höllenspitz chair or by cutting across into it from Greitspitz. With a wide range of slopes to suit intermediates and advanced skiers and snowboarders.

Fimbatal

For several years there have been plans to build a lift up Piz Val Grona, but rare bird sightings have put a hold on it. Intermediate skiers can enjoy the views into the valley from the long, red 40 piste while advanced skiers can book a guide to drop off the back of Palinkopf and ski down into the valley.

Kappl

A classic guided route is best suited to advanced skiers has a short hike from the Visnitzbahn chair up to Visnitzkopf before a long descent to nearby Kappl, bringing you out by the valley road opposite the village.

Ski schools

Schneesport-Akademie Ischgl is the only ski school in Ischgl. Lessons start late (10.30am) up on Idalp - request an English-speaking instructor when you book lessons. The school also offers off-piste guiding.
