Flaine Practicalities

Practical information and Apres Ski guide to Flaine

As with many purpose-built French resorts of the 1960s and 1970s, cosy mountain charm is at a minimum. But don't let Flaine's ugly tag put you off - it's ideal for families with its pedestrianized streets, ski in/ski out accommodation and excellent entertainment facilities. At an average 6 m per year, the area is blessed with one of the best snowfalls in the Alps.

Bars and Clubs

Brits flock to Le Diament Noir (T+33 (0)450-908465) with its pool tables and Champions League football showing on certainnights of the week. Go to Le White Bar when you're up for a massive night, The Flying Dutchman if live music is your thing or Le Skifun for some low-key disco action.

Eating

Good choices for basic French fare are Les Chalets du Michet (T+33 (0)450-908008), which operates from a converted cowshed on the piste, or La Perdrix Noire. Limes Rock Cafe has good value meals, and Chez Daniel is famous for its mouth-watering crepe selection.

Shopping

The two shopping arcades, one in Flaine Foret and another in Flaine Forum, contain most of the resort's shops, where you can buy basic necessities and maybe replace lost gloves and hats.
