Ellmau

Find Chalets Resort Guide to Ellmau

Ellmau is a very attractive, traditional resort, set in the Wilder Kaiser (Wild Emperor) mountains. Some chalets here have been welcoming skiers for almost two hundred years.

Skiing in Ellmau

Ellmau is one of the larger ski resorts on the Skiwelt, which is usually cited as Austria's largest ski area with 250km (157 miles) of lift-linked terrain.

You can also get to Kitzbühel by the Ki-West gondola and a short bus link to create one of the world's biggest ski areas.

It is one of the lowest major ski areas in the Alps, but with Austria's largest snowmaking facilities.

The base of the ski area, served by Austria's longest funicular railway (takes four minutes to the top), is right on the edge of town, so a ski bus is usually needed to start your day, unless you opt to stay out of the resort centre in one of the slopeside hotels.

Ideal for Families

Ellmau (55km of runs) is probably the quietest of the resorts, with skiing that largely caters to the beginner and family market.

There are great nursery slopes and a good ski school. There is reasonable cruising for intermediates, Snowboarders will also find the Ski Welt a good place to learn, but there is only one park and half-pipe in the area (at Soll).
