Ski Chalet Details

Les Places is a traditional alpine farmhouse which was constructed in 1828 and recently extensively restored to a high standard.

It offers flexible, spacious and comfortable self catering accommodation.

The house has extensive mountain views and a large front garden (fenced to gate and driveway) and large pasture at the rear of the house. There is ample off road parking. The garden at the house is ideal for sunbathing and for children, barbeque equipment is provided in the cave. The accommodation is spacious and flexible and can be rented in a range of combinations including two large self contained apartments.

The first floor level of the house includes its own entrance from the road into a hallway with a coat hanging area. Off this area are two bathrooms, (one of which is a shower room) both with WC and washbasins. The hallway leads to a large open plan kitchen and lounge area which was previously the grange of the farmhouse. It retains many original features including the original beams with high, sloping roof and stairs to second floor accommodation.

The apartment has underfloor central heating together with convectors in all rooms if required. It is fully insulated including double glazing and shutters. There is a log burning stove in the open plan lounge, and an L shaped seating arrangement for eight to ten including bedsettee if required. There are large windows in the lounge with extensive views of the valley and mountains.

The spacious open plan kitchen is equipped with fan assisted electric oven, gas hob, extractor, double sink unit, microwave oven, fridge/freezer, tiled work surfaces and a number of storage units and cupboards. Fondue and raclette equipment is available. The kitchen area has a hexagonal dining table to seat eight to ten, and an extra folding table and chairs to accomodate up to sixteen people.

There are four large double bedrooms with built in wardrobes and sloping ceilings. These comprise a mix of double beds & twinned rooms. For an extended upper apartment, two further double bedrooms are situated off the lounge, one of the bedrooms is spacious with an additional bedsetee.

The ground floor cave is entered via a separate front entrance to the right of the downstairs front door. The cave is fully insulated and tiled with storage space for skis, bicycles etc, and access to washing machine, tumble dryer & barbeque equipment.

Chalet Food

Abondance is approx. 5 -10 mins drive. There are also several other excellent restaurants within easy reach of the chalet.

Ski Chalet Farmhouse Les Places is in Chatel, France

The house is situated on the edge of the village of Bonnevaux in a quiet location served by a private road leading off the main village through road before it climbs up the Col de Corbier. Bonnevaux is situated just off the main Thonon, Evian (Lake Geneva) to Chatel road. It is 22 km from Thonon (30 minutes).

Lake Geneva is half an hour away for swimming, boating and steamer trips and golf. There are also 3 open air swimming pools nearer the house at Bernex, Chatel and Morzine, and thermal baths at Val D'Illiez near Champery. In the summer mountain and climbing equipment can be hired locally.

For winter holidays there is a wide choice of skiing and other winter sports within easy reach by car. The nearest skiing is on the Col de Corbier - the house is approximately 10 minutes, 400 metres from the nearest ski lift. The Col de Corbier is a small friendly ski station, with buttons and chair lifts. It includes good nursery and intermediate slopes, green, blue and red runs, and certain of the red runs are rather demanding. It is a small friendly ski station in which lift passes, lessons, bars, restaurants, and ski hire are very reasonably priced.

There is also of course easy access to major resorts in the vast Portes du Soleil ski region - Abondance/Chapelle - 10 mins, Chatel -20 mins, Morzine/Avoriaz - 20 mins, Les Gets - 30 mins etc. Bernex ski station 15 mins. There is an excellent cross country skiing network from Abondance - the nearest village to the house (3 km). Ski equipment can be hired locally at very competitive rates. Both indoor and outdoor ice-skating is also available in the area & guided Snow Shoe Walking & Off Piste Skiing is available.

Excursions may be taken to amongst other locations Chamonix, St. Bernard Pass, Aosta in Italy, Montreux, Berne, Verbier and Zermatt in Switzerland.

Chatel Guide
