Find Chalets Resort Guide to Anzere

Anzère lies on a sunny terrace at 1500m above the Rhone Valley, only 15 kilometres from Sitten, the capital of the canton.

Anzère started life as a winter sports centre in the 1960s with its beautiful views over the Rhone Valley and the Valais Alps.

Skiing in Anzère

Anzère ski region stretches from altitudes of 1500m to 2500m.

There are 12 lifts and a wide range of courses and trails for downhill and cross-country skiers, snowboarders and winter hikers.

Tobogganists will find a super toboggan run, and there are plenty of opportunities for winter hikers and snowshoe walkers.

Anzère is wonderful walking country in summer with interesting tours along historical irrigation channels - which are known as suonen.

Anzère is in central Valais at the foot of the Wildhorn massif. Surrounded by larch and pine forests Anzère is luckly enough to enjoys an almost Mediterranean micro-climate.

Anzère before 1960 was simply a collection of five small chalets. Thanks to its location, Anzère quickly grew to become a modern but compact holiday village.

Suonen

The Ayent-Anzère is such a sunny location that it has one of the driest climates in Switzerland. Local farmers of the region have built a network of suonen, the irrigation channels ('Bisses’ in French) so typical of the Valais.

Three main suonen, 70 km in length, traverse the community. The first suonen dates from the middle of the 15th century. For those of you who might be interested t there is a little suonen museum in Anzère.

There are mountain trails up to the Wildhorn Glacier (3247m) and a total of 166 km of marked footpaths in the region.

Anzère in summer is perfect for mountain bikes (5 routes,80 km). There are lots more to do in Anzère in the summer : Climbing, riding, fishing, a hang-gliding school, mountain huts, tennis courts, a heated open-air and indoor pool, mini-golf, beach volleyball and a giant children’s playground.
